Collection of general thoughts

Published by kirstenr under Random thoughts, eL Des

So I’ve written up as many blogs as I possibly could have in the past week or so without losing my sanity (okay, did I have it in the first place? haha) and my brain is at a point where it just hurts.

Maybe thats the lack of sleep though… I reckon I’ve had 10-12 hours sleep in the past 2 days, plus worked full 8 hour days… I’m exhausted! I NEED this break, except I’m not going to really get one because I have work experience starting next Wednesday, which is happening 3 days a week for the next 5 weeks. Inbetween all that I’ll be working at my paid job (so I can have some money :P ), so I could quite possibly be working 6 days a week (I can’t work Saturdays because I have netball).

I have enjoyed this subject, although I probably didn’t put as much effort into it for a number of reasons. Firstly, I overloaded myself and took 5 subjects this semester (and I’m also doing it next semester) so I can finish this year and graduate next Autumn. Secondly, I focused on my other subjects which had major assignments worth 60% or more over this one. Thirdly, I had to combine my uni timetable with work, netball, a social life and time to do my assignments. And finally, my procrastination habits HAVE NOT changed :(

I think its time for me to go to bed… I’m really looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow :)

Self-publishing

Published by kirstenr under Module 1, eL Des

There are many self-publishing applications available. Social networking websites such as Facebook and MySpace have their own self-publishing capabilities (Facebook has Notes, MySpace has Blogs and Bulletins), and wikispaces is a form of self-publication, as is the application I’m currently using – edublogs…

Lee Lefever’s ‘Common Craft Show’ has two really simple videos. The first, “Blogs in Plain English” explains, well, blogs. The second “Wikis in Plain English”, explains, what else, but wikis. These videos make blogs and wikis very easy to understand for anyone, even someone with limited technological knowledge.

My experiences with wikispaces and edublogs have helped my learning in many ways.

I have used wikispaces in other subjects in order to coordinate group projects, and so far it has worked effectively.

Edublogs has aided my learning, essentially by showing me that I procrastinate! It has forced me to see that I have to work on my procrastination, because the blogs are an assessable component of the subject and I really really really want to pass this subject so I can graduate at the end of the year. In all seriousness, it has also helped me to reflect on my learning as it gives me a space to voice my reflections, and have others comment on my thoughts (although there haven’t been too many of those… *cries* haha)

You’re terrible Muriel… *ahem* Kirsten

Ok. So we’ve pretty much established that I suck at blogging regularly.

I wish I could just sit down and type, but I’m so easily distracted by so many things its just frustrating.

Things will pick up soon, I’m trying my best to use my break productively…

Post One 2008 – better late than never I suppose…

Published by kirstenr under eL Des

I’ve been having technological issues (as well as procrastination issues :-S) lately.

First off, my internet kept going down (frustrating), then apparently I’d forgotten my edublogs password (also frustrating), and then when I tried to get my new password, all the uni sites (like webmail) were taking forever to load, so by the time I got to that point I felt like throwing my computer against the wall. (I decided that would be too costly, and plus, my computer is kinda heavy :-P )

I’ve been attempting to find information on the internet about my neighbourhood centre, however, I can’t seem to find anything! I’ve tried my local council site (all they had were community halls for hire), a Google search (which came up with links to the council site) and a search on the site of the local newspaper (which also came up with links to the council site). All in all, I haven’t been very successful.

In regards to the activities in the Activities Guide, I have been reading the articles and trying to formulate some sort of blog around them, however with my internet not cooperating all the time it’s been difficult to post them.

Hopefully it will still be working tomorrow and Friday, when I’ll really get stuck into my uni work, I promise!
