Design Recommendations
In my design recommendations for the NSW Department of Community Services (DoCS) I have chosen to focus on the Cultural Awareness: Working with Diversity program.
Originally, this program was designed as a whole day session, running from 9:30am until 4:30pm. The program consisted of five sessions; an Introduction session, two sessions on Australia’s Diverse Population, a session on Culture, Discrimination, Racism and Power, a session on Cross Cultural Issues in the Workplaces, and a session on Language Resources and Interpreters. Finally, there was a concluding session where content was consolidated and plans for the future were made.
Taking this program takes the participants (often case workers, and often from western NSW) away from their clients and their homes. By converting this program from a full day face-to-face into an e-Learning experience with a degree of flexibility in when the participants conduct their learning, it will benefit the participant, their families (see learner profiles), and most of all the clients who depend on their services.
The new e-Learning based program will originate from a home page contained within the DoCS intranet and held on the DoCS server, which will contain a mashup of different e-Learning technologies, including vodcasts, learner profile pages, discussion boards, wikis, webinars, and a file exchange.
